Fractured Molar Got Filled, Sharp Pain Through Gum, Swollen Gum. Infection Or Inflammation?
I had a fractured molar filled almost 2 weeks ago. There is no pain from the tooth but there is sharp shooting pain through my gum right before the molar(by the way, there is no tooth before the fractured molar, it was pulled many years ago). So the gum in front of the filled molar is sore and a little swolen. Is this just inflammation from the procedure or possibly an infection?
Tooth pain along with swelling indicates infection in the tooth that had spread to the periapical tissues including gums leading to formation of abscess.
Another reason can be due to plague and calculus deposition either due to irregular margins of restoration leading to inflammation and redness of surrounding gums.
I would suggest you to visit Dentist get the checkup done, take an x-ray of the tooth, depending upon which you have to go for root canal treatment of the tooth followed by prosthetic crown placement.
Go for symptomatic treatment of complete mouth scaling and polishing.
Maintain a good oral hygiene.
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The filled molar may be infected periapically resulting in spread of infection ,thus causing pain and swelling of gums.
Gingivitis can also result in swelling of gums.
I would suggest you to get thorough clinical as well as x-ray examination of the involved area.
Get your teeth cleaned.
If there is periapical infection in relation to the filled tooth, get root canal treatment done.
Take complete course of antibiotics after consulting with your dentist.
Use soft interdental toothbrush and dental floss to prevent plaque deposition.
Use chlohexidine mouthrinses to gargle.
Take care.
Hi,
You have mentioned that a filling on the molar tooth was done. An xray of the tooth should be taken to know if the fracture is involving the pulp of the tooth. If it is involving the pulp the tooth should be root canal treated and then a crown should be placed over the tooth. Pl consult an Endodontist at the earliest.
Hello dear
Your story is indicating towards infection of fracture tooth as sharp shooting pain can not be due to inflammation of gums.I think due to fracture your tooth pulp is exposed and creating trouble. So better consult a dentist and i think you need RCT of this tooth. In the mean while donwarm saline rinses and take some painkillers to relive yourself.
