Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
Let me put some facts about ENCHONDROMA's infront of you
* These are BENIGN (not cancers)
cartilage forming bone tumours that generally develops in small bones of hands and foot but may occur in any bone like femur, tibia and
humerus.
* These are generally considered as ASYMPTOMATIC (do not produce pain) and indolent lesions. These are accidentally diagnosed when xrays are taken for some other causes.
* These generally grow upto the age of skeletal maturity and once skeletal maturity is attained, they cease to grow.
* In an adult, If a lesion is found growing or is causing pain, it strongly suggests the possibility of
malignant transformation into chondrosarcoma.
SO IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ELIMINATE OTHER CAUSES FOR PAIN BEFORE ATTRIBUTING SYMPTOMS TO AN ENCHONDROMA.
Generally, enchondromas do not require
surgical treatment.
Enchondromas can be treated with curettage and
bone grafting to restore strength to bone.
Hope this information is more than sufficient for you. Good luck
