Painful Lump Near The Base Of Top Left Molar. History Of Extraction Of Wisdom Tooth, Incapable Of Fully Opening Mouth. Help
I have a lump (about an inch to an inch and a half long) on the inside of my cheek near the base of my top left molars. I had my wisdom teeth extracted on may 30th and I'm still not capable of opening my mouth all the way. It actually seems to open less than it has for at least a week, and it is very painful! Please help!
The lump at the base of molar may be arised due to-Deep dental caries in the top left molar or dry socket developed at the site of extraction socket resulting in lump formation.
A detailed clinical as well as radiological evaluation of the lesion is mandatory to diagnose the cause of occurence of lump under the tooth.
Thanks for the query. The lump you are observing, which is still present after almost 3 weeks of you tooth extraction is probably a haematoma, that is collection of blood in tissue spaces near the surgical area during surgical procedure. It will resolve automatically, but certainly will take time. Your limited mouth opening is not an uncommon outcome of a surgical procedure and that is because of your haematoma and injuries to the muscles around the surgical area. I repeat, This things will heal by itself but will take time. In the mean time you can do the following:
1. Warm salt water mouthwash every three hours keeping the water over swollen area.
2. Use Aceclofenac 100 mg + paracetamol 500 mg+ Chlorzoxazone 500 mg twice daily in combination or separately.
This will relieve your pain and will open your mouth faster
Contact your local dentist or the surgeon for further advise.
Hi thanks for the query, To rule out whether the lump is due to wisdom tooth or top left molar, you need a thorough clinical and radiographical examination. If it is because of wisdom tooth , then visit a dentist for irrigation of socket with betadine and ZOE dressing. And if its due to top left molar then treatment is root canal for it. Take care
