Phantom Smells Over A Week. Will B12 Deficiencies Cause Phantom Smells?

Along with some very minor symptoms that are common to someone aged 55 I've had phantom smells for a week or more ( exhaust fumes or burning wire or smoke) A Dr in ER says it could relate to electrolyte deficiencies and sent me for blood tests. I find info on some psychiatric symptoms with B12 deficiencies but is phantom smells one of them?

Hi and thanks for the query,
Vitamin B12 deficiency unfortunately actually has not been reported much to have a relationship with smells directly. It is very important in red blood cell formation in the bone marrow and in the integrity of nerve cells. I suggest other tests dealing with smell should be carried to ascertain more common causes of small disorders. Consulting an ENt specialist for a proper review of the ENT sphere, associated with smell detection could be most helpful. thanks and kind regards.
