Please Tell Me The Treatment For Nairobi Fly Burns.
Having just returned from Kenya where i was acting as first aider for a group we had numerous problems with Nairobi Fly burns. We were advised to use toothpaste (not gel) and this worked very well when regularly smeared on the affected area. any idea why this worked so well and any suggestions for better treatment when working like this in the wild again.
Welcome to Healthcare Magic You can apply soothing Lactocalamine lotion, antibiotic cream or apply cold packs to the painful areas which will give relief to the pain. You should avoid touching the fly with your hands but rather blow away the fly from the body because it;s body has an irritant fluid which if bursts will come in contact with skin and cause blisters. If blisters are formed you may need to get them dressed by your Nurse or Doctor.
