Popping Of Ear While Blowing Nose, Tender Ears, Unable To Smell. History Of Cold. Have Graves Disease. Any Home Remedies?

For the past week I have been unable to smell, though iam able to breath thru my nose.. I had a cold for a few weeks prior to losing my smell. Today when blowing my nose my one ear popped a few times..and now I have a deep tenderness inside of my ear is there anything I can take over the counter or home remedies. I have graves disease so a lot of times my options are limited. thank you

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
You should not blow from your nose vigorously.
there is a tube behind the nose which connects the middle part of ear and as we blow the air passes from the tube to the ears, in that case as there can be trauma from pressure or the infections present in nose(as nose is not sterile it is open to the environment) travel up to the ears.
Get ENT consultation.
You should take---
steam inhalations
Decongestant tablets
nasal decongestant drops
If required antibiotics

If in doubt do reply
