Hi my 72 yr old mother was prescribed .25mg /day of Pramipexole for restless legs, and has been taking it for 12 days. She wants to discontinue it because she actually has leg cramps from a calcium and possibly potassium deficiency we think (she is correcting these), not restless legs and she is getting a lot of side-effects from Pramepexole- she is at the mid point between mild cognitive deficiency and mild dementia and Pramepexole has made memory her much worse, and is causing her to feel depressed, tired, and she has dry mouth and some diarrhea (its possibly unrelated). She is super sensitive to drugs and dose reductions, she tapered off Effexor extremely slowly last year (2 beads per day) is on 14mg of Prosac now- and has been doing well prior to the pramipexole. She is no longer cutting down Prozac but when she was, she was only able to reduce Prozac at a rate of .5mg/month without developing confusion- just as an example of her sensitivity. Should she try to taper Pramipexole slowly? We might be able to quarter her 0.125 tablet or should she just go down to half right away? Do dopamine receptors get down-regulated in such a short time? What if any withdrawal symptoms can we expect. Other meds she takes- synthroid, meloxicam, pantaloc, and the 14mg prozac. Thanks!
