Pre Teenager Suffering From Heart Murmur And Chest Pain, Taking Life Guard Lessons. Suggestion?

My 16 year old daughter is taking lifeguard lessons. She has a heart murmur and has chest pain when she has to do the long distance swim. I told her to just slow down but she is pressured from girls who are on swim teams and think nothing of swimming circles around her. She is embarassed and pushes herself faster than she wants to go and then the pain forces her to stop. Suggestions?

Sports Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi ruby.
Chest pain after physical activity in someone your daughter's age should always be investigated. After assessment by your physician, a special scan of your daughter's heart may be required. In the meantime I would advise she holds off any severe exertion or sports activity.
