Hello I am 20 weeks pregnant with my second child and aged 34, I had preeclampsia in my first pregnancy and still have highblood pressure , therefore I am taking medication to correct this. at my recent consultant appointment my blood pressure was 120/63 - could you tell me if this would be considered low and if so why. Kind Regards
Hello
Thank you for your query.
Your systolic blood pressure is 120 mm hg which is normal.
Diastolic blood pressure is 63 mm hg which is slightly on the lower side, but if you do not have any symptoms, it is normal for some individuals.
With a previous history of pre eclampsia, you are at high risk for recurrence in this pregnancy.
Have regular BP assessment, growth scans, look for diastolic notching in uterine artery on ultrasound ( predictor of pre eclampsia ), rest in left lateral position, take adequate calcium supplements, restrict your salt intake.
Take care.
