am 26 years old, I have 7months old baby girl I had a c-section.later again I became pregnant 9-10 week feotus,I decided to terminate my pregnancy I did D&C exactly one week before and I went for a checkup my doc asked me to take a scan. the scan report reads uterus: 11.1*4.8*7.5cms anteverted normal size.contours are regular. no space occupying lesion in the uterus endometrial echo is heterogeneous and thickness is 8-9mm suggestive of minimal Retained product of conception(RPOC) right ovary: measures 2.9*2.5cms left ovary: measures 3.1*3.0cms both ovaries appear normal no free fluid in the P.O.D no adnexal mass lesion. What does it mean? please help me, Am really scared. Thank you.
Hello Gloria
Thanks for your query.
RPOC means retained products of conception which means the tissues that sometimes get left behind after surgical abortion.
In case the RPOC measure more than 15 mm, then a repeat D and C would be required.
However, in your case the RPOC is minimal.
Your doctor would ideally try to get rid of this by antibiotics and supportive medication.
A review scan after a few days would show if the RPOC is persistent, then you might need a repeat D and C
take care.
