Pregnant. Have Swelling In Gums. Taking Antibiotic. Safe To Take Antibiotics?
Hi, i am 21 weeks pregnant and over the last month i had swelling in my gum due to my wisdom tooth. I had over 4 courses of antibiotic now and my gum around the right wisdom tooth finally stop swelling. i also had a dentist cleaned around the gum.. I can open my jaw now. However the top back right side of my mouth now swells. I am not sure i should take the wisdom tooth out and whether the swelling is caused by the wisdom tooth. I tried salt water rinse but it doesn't help much. I am back on antibiotic now hoping to reduce the swelling. I don't want to take further antibiotic and not sure if i should remove my wisdom tooth or is this not related cause i stop feeling pain around the wisdom tooth.
Hi, Firstly, in pregnancy, any sort of medication must be given with the consent of your attending obstetrician. Since you did not mention the name of the antibiotic, I cannot say if it is safe during pregnancy. An extraction may be performed under your doctor's observation and with a local anesthetic if the dentist thinks it is absolutely necessary. Hope this information is useful. Wish you good health.
