Pregnant, Taking MTP Tablets, Minimal Bleeding. Options Other Than Surgery?

Dear Lundi
My wife is pregnant for less than five weeks, according to USG. She has taken tablets for MTP. Two tablets in the presence of Doctor probably misoprostol ,and 6 tablets 4 hourly [we don’t know the name].but she has minimal bleeding and 1 or 2 mild cramps only. If this procedure fails shall we go for mifepristone tablets and another dose of misoprostol as we are not ready for surgical abortion. Kindly advise. Thanks.

Hello
Thank you for your query.
Medical abortion is to be strictly conducted under medical supervision.
Please consult your gynecologist before embarking on any step.
If wrongly managed, then you would face life threatening risks such as :
1. Infection
2. Uncontrolled bleeding
3. Retained products
4. Necessity of surgical abortion
5. Tubal blockage, endometrial damage

If medical abortion fails, your doctor could try giving you further medication for short term, or would advise you surgical abortion if the remaining products are quite significant in size.
Please consult your doctor at the earliest.
Take care.
