Pregnant, Taking Panafcort. Will It Cause My Baby To Be Small? Is It Permanent Damage?

I have been taking btwn 20-5mg of Panafcort since I was 25 weeks pregnant and initially told there would be zero side effects for my baby. Now I am 37.5wks they are saying that may be the cause that my baby is small (my last baby was and it is still in normal range but low end) and the most distressing thing is they can t say if it is permenant damage. Please can you give me your thought?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.

Panafcort contains prednisone.
Usually long-term usage of steroids are not recommended in pregnancy as that can lead to low birth weigh baby, small placenta and baby adrenal cortex malfunction etc.
But as your baby parameters are within normal range, don't worry.
Stop the drug and continue with regualr antenatal checkups and ultrasound examinations.
After birth of the baby evaluation should be done to note any permanent damage. But don't worry that may not be there and hope for the best.

Take care.
