Premature Birth, Low Hb, Transfusion Given. Spleen, Liver Enlarged, CMV Present. Hearing Ability, Neural Developments Not Known

Sir/Madam my son is born at 28th week of pregnancy due IUGR , he is now 3.4 Kgs. after 3 months of birth, he was given blood transfussion two times due lower levels of Hb after which suddenly doctors noticed spleen and liver enlargement and subsequently blood and urine test were done which confirmed presence of CMV with count of 3963 after which doctor prescribed 60 mg of oral Vancoclovir tablet. We are now worried of our son s condition and how for the drug is effective for treating this condition. And more over we are not sure about his hearing ability and neural developements. Please reply. Thanks

Hi
As oral drug for CMV started, usually the drug prevents hearing impairment and maintains hearing function.
But better to test for hearing function at this point for your child as it will work as baseline for further and furure hearing tests for the comparision to know any improvement or deterioration.
Be in regular follow up with your Doctor for the developmental assessment, hearing assessment and to detect early of any drug related toxicity.
