Prescribed Tavanic, Vibramycin, ZInc And Vitamin B6 Supplements Due To Increased PSA, BHP And Increased Calcifications. Suggest

Hi doctor i have some guestions. My man has first PSA 1.76 and doctor said he had BHP. It was 2011. In 2012 after exam said that he had BHP and calcifications. This year he had PSA 3.55 in May and after 6 months PSA was 4.69. The doctor priscribed him Ciproxin 500 mg for 2 weeks and PSA decreased to 4.05. After that the doctor priscribed Tavanic and Vibramycin but PSA increase to 4.63. Now the doctor priscribed Prixina for 10 days. My man began to take Zinc 15 mg, vitamin B6 50 mg and turmeric. The fist guestion is - may this calcifications increase the PSA and decrease free PSA and what can we get rid of the calcifications. As i know in these spots have a lot of bacteria and is very difficult for cure. The secon is - will zinc and turmeric mask the real value in PSA after the antibiotic. Please for your advice.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Prostatic Calcification can increase the value of total PSA, but it should not decrease free PSA . Zinc and Turmeric has no effect on level of PSA, but there can be false elevated levels of PSA due to urinary tract infection, After Digital examination of prostate, Catheterization , cystoscopy, vigorous exercise, specially bicycle riding, Sexual Activity etc. can falsly increase the levels of Total PSA.
I do not think that repeated course of Antibiotics, and change in Antibiotics will help in calcification resolution. If he is getting repeated urinary infection , then after urine culture and sensitivity test, he might me given long course of Antibiotics in proper doses. To rule out false high level of PSA, he shuould go for free PSA level and Ratio of total to Free PSA level. A new test for PSA3 in urine is more sensitive to differentiate between high PSA level due to BHP or Malignancy. If it is available in your area, he may go for the test. If due to calcification, he is getting repeated urinary infection, he may opt for Surgical removal of prostate.
Take care.
