Prescribed Erythromycin For Inflamed And Swollen Breast. How To Ease Pain?
I have developed an infection in my left breast . My GP has prescribed a course of Erythromycin . My breast is really badly inflamed and swollen and the pain is very bad. Is there anything I can do to ease the pain? I only started taking the tablets yesterday and have to see my GP again in 9 days. Is there a soothing cream or gel that I can use? Can I also use Ibuprofen gel along with taking the Erythromycin? Thanks

Hi,
It seems that you might be having acute bacterial infection in the breast with induration, swelling.
Along with antibiotic take one course of anti-inflammatory medicine for pain and to control infection.
You can take Ibuprofen along with Erythromycin.
After proper cleaning apply antibiotic cream.
As you started antibiotic recently, it will take still 1-2 days to work.
Ok and take care.

Analgesic gel will not help ease the pain due to inflammation caused by infection. I suggest you take analgesics or painkillers along with the antibiotics to reduce the pain. I understand that it can be very painful. You will feel better within a day or two. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Thanks.

Breast infection i.e.mastitis usually a very painful condition.
In my opinion local ibuprofen gel will not ease the pain .
In this type of condition usually I prescribe anti inflammatory + serratiopeptidase + antibiotics .
In my opinion broad spectrum antibiotics will develops good result .
Ice pack massage will also provide relief.
If you are lactating mother then extra precaution is very important as milk is a rich source of bacteria.
Consult another surgeon and get his opinion and treatment. Good luck.
