Problems In Swallowing Food, Tender Right Rib And Sternum. Normal CAT Scan Results. Any Ideas?
Hi. I've had problems swallowing food and having it getvstuck in my throat after swallowing for over a year now. My PC thought it was tbyroid cancer. Have no medical in insurance and a stay at home mom. Went to ER and they injected dye and did a CAT scan. Didn't see anything suspicious. Should I be looking into esophageal cancer? Oh one other strange symptom is tender right rib and sternum for same amount of time.
Hi there, CT scan is generally a good modality and will pick up most of the lesions but will not pick very small cancers or growths. Better to see ENT surgeons and get scopic examinations of throat done. Once cleared of pathology from ENT surgeon, you may try some breathing exercises, yoga or similar stretching exercises etc to improve the general muscular tone of the body and it may help with muscular incoordination resulting in swallowing problems etc. Tender rib/ sternum ---mostly its because of lifting some heavy things etc. If persisting seek medical advise. It may not be related. Regards
