Protected Sex, Condom Failure. Liver Function Test Shows High Bilirubin Levels. HIV Risk Present?
hello doctor, my friend had a small problem when he had sex he came to know his condom broke he doent know if it broke while he took it out or inside, he is worried about hiv could u please tell if he would be at risk of infection , recently he took an liver function test for some reason and found the levels of bilirubin at 3.1 instead of 1.2. please advise
Transmission of HIV through sexual route is just 0.3- 1%. That is 3 among 1000 contacts. It may be the first contact or 997th contact. Even some statistics reveal 5 per 10000 contacts.
So the contact with the broken condom HIV transmission is a remote possibility.
Hepatitis B and C are more easily transmitted through sexual contact than HIV.
As your friend's serum bilirubin level is more let him have a check up for HIV, Hepatitis B and C is advisable. Tests are available to confirm these disease according to the duration of time between the exposure and the testing day.
If your friend consult his physician, he/she will direct him what to do.
Get him well as early as possible.
