Rashes On Hands And Legs. Done Biopsy. On Corticosteroids, Antihistamines. What Is Going On?

Hello, I am female, 32 years old.For like month and half have unusual rash on my hands and it is now starting on my legs as well.I did biopsy , but have to wait three weeks for results.My therapy is corticosteroids in cream and antihistamins.Dermatologist checkt my mouth lookin for some leasion.I have google lot and find Linchen ruber planus.could you tell me more about that?

Hello Mam,
Welcome and thanks for posting your query to HCM.
It appears that your doctor is suspecting the rash as "lichen planus" in you. Lichen planus is a common and simple skin condition where the patient have multiple violaceous, flat topped papules (elevation of skin) and are quite itchy in nature. This condition can affect anybody and involves generally upper and lower feet. This is considered to be of unknown reasons why it happens but some times certain drugs are known to cause it. For the treatment part we prescribe topical and oral steroids along with antihistamines. The prognosis of the problem is generally very good and it do not lead to any serious problem. It takes 6 months to around 3 years in some cases to resolve completely. The most important factor to stay away from the problem is by not scratch anywhere over skin.
