Red, Exposed Lip After Removing The Scab From Swollen, Sore, Slightly Bumpy Lips. Using Campho Phenique And Abreva. Solution?
I developed a cold sore 3 weeks ago. It looked like my top lip was just swollen. I went to my schools clinic to get it checked out and the doctor prescribed valacyclovir and told me to take ibuprofen and Benadryl as well. 6 days after the swelling went down and formed a scab. I put abreva on it and when I woke up I gently tried to remove the excess cream off with a warm towel, but the scab came off allowing the area to be exposed and very red. It hurt pretty bad. I put triple action on it and switched to using Campho Phenique. I noticed it starting to heal, but now the healing looks like its at a stand still in the past 5 days. It looks like its trying to get back to my normal lip color but is still a little red and a little bump (not as flat as the rest of my lip). I am currently still using camphor phenique and abreva. Can it be permanent at this point? Should I try seeing a doctor or using something else? Thank you.
It may take a few more weeks for remodelling of your skin to be completed so the scar that you presently see may not be permanent. In most persons with these herpetic mouth sores, the skin returns to its original complexion and texture.
If the scar is still bothersome in a few weeks (up to 2 weeks) then you can consider consulting a dermatologist.
I hope this helps
