Scab With Yellow Spots On Knee, Scraped Knee On Dirty Hiking Trail. Knee Infection?
I scraped my knee on a hiking trail 2 days ago. The trail has lots of dirt and tiny rocks. I cleaned it with a cleaning wipe from a first aid kit then put a bandage on it temporarily. That same day i went into a hot tub, without a bandage over my wound. Today, I took a bath and after i got out, it started forming some sort of scab with yellow spots. It is also red around the wound and looks a little bit swollen. Should i be concerned? Is my knee infected?
HI, The injured area has certainly developed infection. To treat the same, clean the area with warm water and apply a topical antibiotic cream like mupirocin. To reduce swelling, tenderness and inflammation take an oral analgesic. Do not try to remove the scab. usually the redness should subside and lesion should dry completely without any oozing pus or serum in few days. The lesion as such might take few days to heal (ie falling of scab and formation of raw skin underneath). IF lesion does not seem to heal then you might require a course of oral antibiotic too. Hope that answered your query. Take care
