Scar Tissue At The Incision Site Of Plantar Faciitis, Severe Discomfort. Any Suggestions?

I had surgery for Plantar Faciitis about two years ago. The surgery itself was a success and I couldn t be more happy. However, I ve developed scar tissue at the incision site locate on the inside of my right heel. It s a single incision, about 1 long. My doctor told me to massage it but didn t say how long and I didn t ask so of course I ve stopped...some time ago actually. I m afraid it may be too late and I m stuck with the discomfort...any suggestions?

Hello and welcome to HCM,

An incision especially surgical incision heals to form a scar tissue along the line of the incision.
The scar develops along the incision site only and not beyond it.
Sometimes, the scar tissue may develop outside the incision site.
This is called hypertrophic scar or keloid.
This is most probably what is happening in your case.
This occurs due to over activity of fibroblasts.
On the contrary this could be a recurrence of plantar fascitis.
Plantar fascitis is nothing but fibrosis of normal tissue.
Conservative treatment is not usually effective.
You need to consult your surgeon for surgical removal of the tissue in case it is too uncomfortable and painful.
