Scheduled To Have A Sesstamibi Testing. Had CAT Scan Using Radioactive Iodine But Allergic To Iodine. What To Do?
Wed, I am scheduled to have a Sesstamibi testing to check the blood flow to the heart, however I have had a Cat Scan using radioactive idione and I was allergic to the iodione. What should I do? My platets were eaten up along with other medications.
Hello, I have gone through your query regarding sestamibi scan. I am working in a nuclear medicine department and we commonly do 99m technetium Sestamibi scan in our department. yes, you have rightly mentioned that this test is done to check the blood supply to the heart.
From your query, I am getting that you are somewhat apprehensive regarding this investigation. I request you to relax!. Sestamibi scan is done in 2 parts: rest and stress, generally done on the same day. You will be asked to come fasting for around 4 hrs and to stop your medication for hypertension if any on the day of the test. In our department we do stress study first if patient has no cardiac illness. Patient is asked to walk on a treadmill and a small dose of radioactive medicine SestaMIBI is injected while patient is exercising. Then patient is asked to lie under Gamma Camera (just like CT machine) for 15 minutes. The scan is done !!!
I assure you that their will be no allergic reaction like CT contrast. You will be fine at the end of the day.
