Scopolamine Is Used To Stop Nausea And Motion Sickness. Which Is More Dangerous Scopolamine Or Transderm Scop?
hello doctor. I have a few questions about scopolamine. i understand that it is used to stop nausea and motion sickness, but i also hear that it is one of the most dangerous drug in the world. is there a difference between them? is pure scopolamine more dangerous than the transderm scop? thank you for your time
Hi. Welcome to HCM. Transderm Scop (scopolamine) is indicated in adults for prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness and recovery from anesthesia and surgery. The patch should be applied only to skin in the postauricular area. The patch (programmed to deliver approximately 1.0 mg of scopolamine over 3 days) should be applied to the hairless area behind one ear at least 4 hours before the antiemetic effect is required. This drug should be used strictly under medical supervision. Common side effects are allergic reaction, pain and redness of eyes, difficulty in urination, drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness. Report to docotor immediately if u experience agitation, fever excitability, seizures or convulsions and hallucinations, but these are rare and occur at high doses. Transdermal scop is better for motion sickness. Regards
