Semi Solid Saliva During Cough

hi,i am ganesh.s from chennai smoking for 7 years, when i cough at early morning, the saliva comes black golured in semi solid state ... what is the reason, what should i do? i am afraid that i would have been affected by any disease.

Keep your fears aside and quit smoking at the earliest. The black colour can be due to carbon deposits in you phlegum. Adopt deep breathing exercises. If you have some complaints such as blood in sputum etc or if this black expectoration continues even after quitting smoking go for X ray chest. For the time being i think you are fine but need oxygen and not carbon dioxide for healthy life.
