Severe Constipation, Bleeding From Anus, Mucus While Passing Bowels. Suggestions?
Hi I have always had irregular bowel habits. Maybe once every 4 days. This usually requires some straining. Occasionally I notice bleeding on toilet paper with the prescence of hemmoriods on outside lasting a couple days. Today I noticed a thin red line of blood on the outside of the stool . It did appear to be mingled with mucous. No bleeding on toilet paper. What are your thoughts on this ?
Such severe constipations can be caused by wrong diet and lack of physical activity. However there might be more serious reasons like large intestines polyps or cancer. That is why you need some diagnostics to rule them out. Especially that you have noticed blood in stool. If you have also lost some weight recently or have been having abdominal pain, this is another reason to perform some diagnostics.
Blood in stool is usually caused by hemorrhoids only, especially if it is bright red and not mixed with the stool.
It is advisable at your case to have abdominal ultrasound, full blood work and colonoscopy performed. You should also increase fiber rich products and mineral water intake. Fatty foods and soft drinks should be avoided.
Hope this will help.
Regards.
