Severe Fibromyalgia, Bursitis In Knees, Cartlidge Damage With Osteoarthritis In Thumb Joints. Can Steroids Be Taken?
Hi, I suffer from fybromyaligia, often now very bad, have now got/had bursitis in my knees and also cartlidge damage and osteo-arthritis in my thumb joints. I am 43 Do you think I should ask my doctor for some steriods to try to see if they help me? I had to stop working in February this year. I am about to have another MRI scan on my right knee to show the extent of the damage to this one, as ultrasound showed it up. Thanks

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query.
If the pain and inflammation is severe and responded to other measures, You can ask your doctor for steroid injection in the joint to relieve inflammation and to control the pain. If the osteoarthritis is severe, you might need replacement surgery.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
