Headaches are the specialty primarily of a neurologist. The neurologist need to ascertain whether the headache you are experiencing is a primary or secondary headache. Primary headaches could include migraines, tension and cluster headaches. Secondary headaches usually could be meningitis, tumors, brain abscess or other degeneratve diseases. Spinal taps and CT scans are usually needed in this case. A careful clinical review by your neurologist and examination should be sufficient in making a clear distinction and making a diagnosis.
