Severe Kidney Infection During Pregnancy. Child Born With Microcephaly. Concerned

Hi, my name Tarrie, in 2006 in Feb, i suffered a saveer kidney attack, in order to find the enfection i was given a nuclear blue die, four months after this i became pregnant for the first time, When my daughter was born She was born with MICROCEPHALY... why did this happen, how could that have affected my daughter? its very difficult when you blame your self with no answers? Or Even the right questions, so far its a total mystery, since based on my clean family background they said my chance of it was one in a mill so why did it happen, they also said it wouldnt happen again, i had a second child who is not unhealthy in any way hes perfect... any thing you could tell me would mean theworld to me... thank you muchly for your time...

I am really sorry to hear the story of your first child. However, let me assure you that the chances of microcephaly in a child with no previous genetic history in the parents is extremely small, though not as less as one in a million, but perhaps one in a thousand babies. It is not possible to come to a conclusion about the cause of the problem in more than half the cases despite doing all possible investigation.

I would advise you not to consider yourself guilty in this whole affair. It can happen to any baby out of the blue. Even a meticulous history and investigation can miss the cause in more than half the children. I am repeating this so that you will understand the point thoroughly.

Congratulations on having a normal, perfect second child.
