Severe Lower Back Pain While Doing Physical Acitivity. History Of Fall, Severe Pain And Weakness. Any Thoughts?

I have had severe localized back pain on the lower right side. Pain can be localized under two fingers and is most intense when bending, standing, twisting, putting on socks, laying down and running. Dr said try PT, 8 weeks later nothing helped. Pain started after an incident while I was figure skating (I am a competitive figure skater, I have fallen many many times) I landed on a stiff leg, lower back absorbing all impact approx 3 months ago. Severe pain and weakness occurred 2 months ago when I started running. Any thoughts? Dr did not do xrays until a week after my appointment with him when he called back and said maybe he should. Not feeling confident with this doctor.

The pain needs to be evaluated to rule out a prolapsed intervertebral disc or any other cause of spinal nerve root compression leading to radiculitis. A MRI scan of the lumbo-sacral spine will help assess the bony and neurological causes of such pain. The fact that the pain is aggravated on movement and bending suggest a musculoskeletal cause may also be there.Use of muscle relaxants and non-narcotic analgesics apart from physiotherapy may offer relief.Your doctor /orthopaedician can examine and investigate you as per the physical findings. The treatment will be specific to the cause found.
