Hello,
I had car accident in may 2013, had ct scan in ER with C7 transverse process fracr
Fracture which was stable and sternum fracture. I have severe left sided neck and shoulder pain with some bilat upper arm weakness. Tried PT which made pain in neck severe. Had recent MRI with findings: c4-c5 3mm disc herniation with compression of left anterior and lateral thecal sac and slight cord compression and narrowing of foreman. C5-c6 with same findings as above minus cord compression. Is surgery needed? Thanjs for your advise.

if there is so problem and is notcleared by medicine and physiotherapy you need to go for surger to decrese the pressure on nerves and now a days there is mini laproscopic surgeries which are safe and they have no complications and fast recovery and no complications with less healing time

General & Family Physician Dr. Chobufo Ditah's  Response
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about the accident dating back to may 2013 and the recent disturbing symptoms and findings on MRI.

From the information you have provided, surgery is strongly recommended to relief you of your symptoms and halt/reverse the neurological symptoms on your upper limbs. If nothing is done surgically, these symptoms would gradually worsen to a state that your quality of life would be greatly compromised.

There is no better way to stress on this but meet and discuss the exact plan with a neurosurgeon so that you can soon get relieved of this problem.

I wish you well in the pursuit of solutions. Feel free to contact us if you need any more information about this. Once more, thank you for your query.
