Severe Pain In The Cheek After Being Bitten Accidentally. Do I Need To Go To The Doctor?
I accidentally bit into my cheek while chewing gum about a week ago. Now there is flap of skin where I bit. It s not swollen, hot/warm, or a cold sore (from what I can tell). It didn t start hurting until 4 days ago and the pain is similar to the stingy pain of a cut cheek from wearing braces. I need to know if I need to go to the dentist to get it checked out because the flap has not gone down at all and only increases in pain.
probably your cheek is ulcerated because of biting. generally it should heal within 2-3 days. since it has not healed even after 4days, you should consult dentist. may be the ulcer is too big to heal on its own or there might be some sharp tooth surface which is not letting ulcer to heal. dentist will round off sharp tooth surface and will prescribe some gel so that ulcer heals faster.

According to your clinical history i suppose that you have developed a cold sore or ulceration on the cheek mucosa due to the traumatic injury. The wound may not be healing properly due to rubbing or abrasion of the teeth.
Apply DOLOGEL or mucopain oral ointment topically over the affected area.
Take lukewarm saline and antiseptic mouthwash rinses.
Maintain a good oral hygiene.
If the condition persists or worsen i would suggest you to visit the Dentist and get the checkup done.
hello and welcome to hcm forum,
thank you for posting for query, i would like to inform you that the flap which has developed from cheek biting will take a week's time to disappear, as you know even chewing food causes accidental biting over the area therefore its taking time to heal and now its already been 4 days, so do not worry, try warm saline rinses, or antibacterial mouth wash(3-4 times/day), also, antibacterial gel(metrohex) apply it over the affected area twice daily(half an after or before meals), and try not to chew food from the same side for a while until it heals .
i hope i answered your query,
i wish you good health.
i read your problem.See, a cheek bite can hurt for days after you actually bit the inside of your cheek.
One way to ease the throbbing pain of cheek bite is ice. Place a small piece of ice in you mouth , hold ice with your tongue directly against bite wound. It will help relieve any inflamation.
You can take pain reliever like ibuprofen or acetominophen.
another way to prevent this by brushing teeth and your tongue, will help to get rid of some germs and bacteria that could cause your cheek bite to get infected.
Rinse thoroughly with antiseptic mouthwash.
Use topical anaesthetics that contain benzocaine, lidocaine, tetracaine will also help to relieve your pain.
You should also visit your doctor if you think you cheek bite is infected.
hi..the stingy pain is due to chronic cheek biting .you can apply mucopain gel or dologel over the flap effected.i advice you to take all kinds of salt and spicy food as usual so that the skin of flap heal fast.please take salt water gargle frequently.do not brush your teeth vigorously as it can increase the pain.hope you get well soon.
Hello,
Biting on cheeks while eating is known as cheek bite or linea alba buccalis. It takes some time to heal. You can do warm saline gargles thrice daily also you can apply some ulcer gel over the affected area. It will become alright within 10-15days. If the problem persists consult your dentist.
Hi,
After reading your symptoms i feel you have developed a traumatic ulcer in your cheek, which may not be healing properly due to rubbing or getting abraded by your teeth. Because of the movable tissue of the cheek, the pain feels more and the cut/bite wound takes longer to heal. You need to apply a topical anesthetic ointment such as dologel or mucopain 3-4 times/day for a couple of days to relieve the pain locally as well as to enhance healing. If the ulcer still persists then i would strongly recommend you to visit a dentist.
Regards
