Severe Pain In The Neck Radiating To The Shoulder. Could This Be Due To Long Hours In Front Of The Computer?
I am having severe pain in my neck that radiates down to my shoulder blade. This pain although itcomes and goes it is often times very painful and uuncomfortable. I have been a CNA for 7 years and as you may know this line of work can be hard on your back. But most of my pain is in the neck and shoulder. It lasts for hours and even days of non stop sharp pain. The pain is more intense when I relax my shoulders, lift or pull anything, turn my neck to the right or extended to the far left. I often times can not sleep and when I do I wake up with immediate and excruciating pain.
Your pain might just be due to the long hours spent in front of the computer. The nerves to our hands originate from the cervical spine and pass through the armpit region into the arms as the brachial plexus. Any strain will give rise to pain in your upper limbs. Also you must realise that working on the computer requires you to keep your neck straight for longer times.
Please consult a physiotherapist and learn some simple relaxation exercises. I would also suggest you to take 5 minutes break for every hour that you spend in front of your computer.
your problem indicates towards cervical spondylosis. you need a radiological investigation x ray cervical spine- AP/Lat view. on confirmation of diagnosis you need analgesic/ anti-inflammatory till acute pain subsides, followed by isometric cervical exrcises
wish you an early recovery
