Severe Pain In Thighs, Done Stretching Exercises. Pain Radiates From Hip To Knee. Taken Tylenol, Vicodin And Nproxin. Sciatic Pain?

I woke up with severe pain on the top of my thigh. I thought maybe I should do some stretching, so I went to Curves for 40 minutes of exercise. Since then, (11 days ago) I have been seeing my chiropractor, but have seen NO improvement at all. I have been resting it as much as possible. I have a terrible burning, throbbing pain that radiates from my hip down, not quite to the knee. Ice helps for a few minutes. I've tried Vicodin, Tylenol, and Naproxin. Ideas? Chiropractor says it's sciatica, but my research results claim the pain goes down the BACK of your leg, not down the front.

Hi, it appears to be due to the lumbar spondylosis, may have resulted into sciatica, or arthritis of the hip joint,or urinary tract infection. I advise you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for diagnosis and treatment. You may need to have M.R.I. for confirmation of the disease. Thank you.

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

As you are experiencing pain from your Hip joint down into the knee especially in the FRONT side, it could be most likely due to pathology in the Hip joint.

Most often, Hip problems present as pain in the knee due to the fact that they share common nerve supply.

As you have tried conservative management for a few days without any significant improvement in the symptoms, I suggest you to go for an xray as well as MRI scan of the hip joint which diagnoses your problem.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day

Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Vaibhav Gandhi's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us,

As per your symptoms probablity is lumbar disc bulge compressing your spinal nerves leading to pain in your hips and down.

MRI spine will confirm diagnosis so I will advise to do that.
As you are having no relief with medication ,next step include epidural injection therapy which can be given after doing MRI.
Till that time Physiotherapy like USG and SWD will give some relief

I hope that I have answered your query. Let me know if I can help you further. Take care
