Severe Pain Near Right Wisdom Tooth, White Spot. Applied Ambesol. Does It Require Immediate Medical Attention?

On upper back right side near where wisdom tooth would be coming in, my 14 year old has been c/o of pain for a few days that has now escalated to severe pain. She also just got her braces off. There is a white spot/ pimple with what looks like a fiber coming out of it. We had her apply ambesol to the area, but it didn t last long and she is in pain again. Is this considered an emergency that we should call her dentist or orthodontist on a Saturday?

hello,
the pain i due to the pericoronitis of impacted wisdom tooth.
the gingival flap around the tooth will be inflammed.
throat and ear infection, metal taste in mouth are common symptoms.the condition will worsen as your kid is wearing braces.
visit an oral surgeon and take an x-ray of that area.according to the x-ray,your doctor will decide whether the flap around tooth has to be removed,ie,operculectomy or tooth has to be extracted.
extraction is indicated,if tooth is horizontally impacted.
take care.

Hello,
I read your problem, you did not tell whether you have x-rays of the same area or not,but as you gave the details,it seems that, your daughter is having impacted wisdom tooth because of food impaction in that area she is having infection in the same area and now she is feeling pain in the same region. As this area is difficult to clean so bits of food remains even after brushing and later it will cause pain in the same region ,if not treated will cause severe infection and results in pericoronitis and adjacent bone damage,so i will suggest you please go to an oral surgeon in your area as soon as possible and go for complete examination done including x-rays and please follow all the given instructions properly and take a proper treatment.mean while she can do warm saline gargles and can take pail killers to relieve the pain.nothing to get worried.
Take Care

hello
it seem pain is due to pericoronitis so the wisdom tooth
which is impacted need to be removed, so kindly consult
an oral surgeon.
the white nodule may be because of cheek bite that will
be relieved once wisdom tooth is removed.analgesics and
antibiotics will help.

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

The reason for your present symptoms could be an abscess developed in the region of upper molar.

It could be originated from the teeth itself or from the surrounding gum tissue(pocket) as you were wearing braces.

There are more chances to get gum infection during ortho dontic treatment.

Therefore please visit your dentist and get it examined once.

A thorough cleaning can solve your problem.

Meanwhile do warm saline rinses and maintain very good oral hygiene.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

Take care.

Hi
This white spot is indicative of pus due to infection in teeth.
you need to have her radigraphical examination done so that it can be judged whether the infection is due to wisdom tooth or any adjacent tooth.
If wisdom tooth would be the reason then irrigation of flap covering wisdom tooth has to be done.
If any adjacent tooth is the reason then root canal is advisable.
If she had any gum disease then scaling and polishing has to be done.
Follow antibiotic prescription.
take care

hi..
thanks for the query...
its a case of pericoronitis... visit your dentist, he will irrigate the area and will also make the wisdom tooth out of occlusion if necessary so as to relieve the symptoms... take proper course of antibiotics and analgesics after that... also tell her to do warm saline rinses 6-7 times a day...
once the symptoms subsides, go for an X-ray to see the position of the tooth...
if sufficeint space is available for the tooth, allow it to errupt...
if space is insufficient, go for its extraction...
take care...

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

According to your clinical symptoms i suspect that you have developed PERICORONITIS around your wisdom tooth. I would like to tell you that wisdom tooth is the last tooth to errupt in the oral cavity and it is difficult to maintain clean. There is often food accumulation and bacterial infection leading to pain and swelling.
I would encourage you to visit to an Oral Surgeon get a checkup done take an OPG radiograph & plan for the extarction of the tooth.
Take a complete course of antibiotics and analgescis.
At home take lukewarm saline and antiseptic mouthwash rinses.

Hope this helps out.

Regards...
