Severely Tender, Extremely Painful Ear, Leaks Blood And Pus Sometimes. Could Be Ruptured Ear Drum ?
My mother in law's ear is severely tender, extremely painful and sometimes leaks blood and pus. Her doctor said it's so bad its green. She has been on antibiotics for 3 weeks and it seems to be getting worse. The doc insists its just an ear infection but won't do a cat scan, what could other possibilities be if not a ruptered ear drum?
There is surely an ear infection. Some infections rupture eardrum and involve the inner ear. Such a condition requires long term antibiotics. The infection could also be limited only to the external ear (due to the extreme pain) and your doctor would have examined the ear.
A CT scan is indicated only if she has any serious problem like fever, altered consciousness, headaches.
Please continue taking antibiotics under supervision from your doctor. Hope this helps.
