Sharp, Intermittent Pain Under Armpits, Occasionally Causing Shortness Of Breath. What Could This Be?
Very sharp but very short intermittent pain just under the left armpit (just above the first rib). Had these for many many years (maybe 15 years or more). They come and go, perhaps several times a year and last for a few days...then disappear. Sometimes the pain seems to take my breath away, but there are no problems at all breathing (no changes in breathing rate), and no other symptoms. What could this be?

I have gone through your query and understood your concerns. The pain you have mentioned suggests about indigestion problem at first because it is even relieved by taking antacids. Increased acid secretions will travel through esophagus and gives rise to heart burn and when it travels up some times it will also travel under the armpit causing such type of pain and it will get resolved soon. If you were my patient I will advice you to take tab.pantaprazole 40mg od in the morning for atleast 10 days to see some difference and as it is a prescription drug you need to consult your treating doctor to confirm the diagnosis and also ruling out of neuropathy is also important in this case.
