Sharp Pain Along The Outside Of My Left Foot, Frequently

Sharp pain along the outside of my left foot, frequently traveling up my leg. Never any pain in the calf, but it begins above the knee and on into my hip. It has been building for several months and has reached the point of constant. I have not been able to walk without a limp for over a month. There is nothing I have done recently to injure my foot or leg, I am not wearing new shoes nor do I wear the same shoes all the time. My primary care physician is on vacation and I don't know when I will get an appointment. Is there anything to recommend.
