Sharp Shooting Pain From The Armpit To The Arm. Have Bloated Stomach. Permanent Cure?

Sir, I am having a sharp shooting pain which extends from my left armpit to my left arm. This happens to be there for around 5-6 seconds. This pain is generally accompanied by a bloated stomach ,at times.I m having this pain for last 25 years. It vanished in between for 4-5 years, but now again it has come back.Please help

Hi there,

Thanks for writing in.

I would definitely advise you to go for a cardiac evaluation just to rule out the possibility of heart disease.This would include ECG, ECHO, Stress test.

Another possibility is gastritis/ indigestion/acidity can also mimic symptoms of a heart attack. If the bloated stomach and arm pain is due to acidity, a tablet of pantoprazole 40 mg once a day half an hour before breakfast for 2 weeks might help.

In addition , do try to follow the below mentioned measures:

If you are overweight, do try to reduce your weight.
Avoid deep fried ,oily food,spicy food, carbonated beverages, alcohol & smoking.
Do yoga/relaxation exercise to reduce stress. Stress also contributes to acidity.
Regular exercise 30-45 minutes daily for 5 days a week.
Have smaller frequent meals rather than 3 large meals.
Have warm water at regular intervals.
