I have shingles of tongue and mouth...a lot of swelling on right side of my face an d can't blink or move my eyelid very well. Is this common or should I call dr. I have been to 3 drs already...also have a lot of pain on right side of face and ear
I have a fear of bells palsy from the nerve damage...is that possible? My pain and swelling still continues after being on meds for 3 days. when should they start working?

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your query. Swelling and pain might possible due to infections. If you can not blink your eye or close properly, can not swallow on same side, cant puff your cheeks and if saliva is running while eating then these all are signs of Bell's palsy. Yes it can be nerve damage. If you have constant pain and doesn't even let you touch the cheek then again it can be nerve damage but the different one. Though you started medications, you also need to take care of ear and eye. Don't sleep or sit directly under fan or AC. Use cap or muffler while travelling to cover ears and wear goggles or glasses. Nerve damage takes its own time to recover but to avoid wasting of muscle, you have to do exercises particularly for face. Consult a physical therapist nearby for the same. I hope this might help you. take care
