Should I Be Concerned For Having Thyroglobulin Level As 1.1?
my Thyroglobulin was 1.1 on my last workup ... had my thyroid removed & 2 para thyroid glands in l996 & have been on 0.112 synthroid since. All the other numbers were normal .. this one was marked L & my doctor indicated that we would discuss this in March when I have my yearly visit. I am an 83 yr. old reasonably healthy female. Should I be worrying?
I am sorry to say that this is very difficult to discuss about your Thyroglobulin level with available information. In patients with post thyroidectomy.
As you might be knowing that in the first few weeks after surgery, the serum Tg will be determined by the completeness of the surgery, the degree of leakage of Tg from the surgical margins, and most importantly whether thyroid hormone has been given to prevent the expected rise in TSH.
In fact, the serum TSH concentration is such a powerful modulator of the serum Tg level that it is usually necessary to know the TSH status of the patient before assessing the significance of any serum Tg measurement.
So I request you to provide your TSH level to discuss it in deatail.
'Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help". Thanks
