Should I Be Concerned For Muffled Hearing In Right Ear After A Metal Stick Fell Into Ear?
Okay so I stupidly was itching my ear with some thin little metal stick and I was leaning on my side whilst i was distracted by my phone. The metal stick fell out of my hand and went into the whole of my ear like really deep. As soon as it slid in, my head instantly hurt for a few seconds. Now it is 3 days later and my hearing is muffled in one ear. (Right ear) and I'm just concerned. Don't really have any pain just feel like I need to pop my ears all the time. Is it serious?
The symptoms can be attributed to injury/ damage to the Tympanic membrane (ear drum) due to insertion of the metal stick. The Tympanic membrane helps in reception & propagation of the sound waves. So, any damage to it causes symptoms like muffled hearing (as mentioned in your post)
Local examination of the ear along with tests like Audiometry & Tympanometry will help in clinching the diagnosis as well as assessing the degree of hearing loss. Depending upon this, further steps for management can be taken. So, it will be better to consult an ENT specialist for further evaluation.
Wishing you a Good Health. Take care.
