Should I Be Concerned For The USG Report Showing Low Lying Posterior Placenta And Lower Pole Touching The IOS?
Dear Mam'
My USG shows 29 weeks and 5 days of gestational age with low-lying posterior placenta lower pole touches the IOS. Will everything be ok till i deliver?
We are worried because during my 1st child i had placenta previa and was bleeding from 4th months onwards and had to deliver my baby at 35th weeks. My 1st child is now 2years 9 months.
Hello. Thanks for writing to us. The lower pole of placenta only touching the internal os is not worrisome at 29 weeks. Most of the times, the placenta shifts upwards as the size of uterus grows. I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. Regards, Dr. Rakhi Tayal , drrakhitayal@gmail.com
Hi, Thanks for the query. Usually low lying placenta can be seen in earlier weeks of pregnancy. And with progression of time, that can migrate upwards. But as you are having low lying placenta extending upto the internal os, the possibility of migration is less. For more details : http://srsree.blogspot.com/2013/11/migration-of-placenta.html So, better to take all precautions to prevent bleeding. Restrict physical activity, take bed rest as much as possible. Avoid journey, intercourse etc. Let your family members aware of your condition. If bleeding occurs immediately go to hospital. Take care.
