Should I Be Worried About Numbness On A Smashed Thumb?
Hello I m really worried about my smashed thumb, yesterday I really smashed my Thumb in my car door it instantly swelled up to 2X the size and blood under the nail was massive so I left it alone for a day but then a friend that is a nurse poped my nail and a ton of blood came out...but now the tip of my thumb whent back to the numbing sensation. so what s going on why do I still feel pressure if all the blood is gone?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Trauma to the thumb has caused the blood to accumulate under the nail. Your primary health provider has drained the blood under the nail by removing the nail. Now you have mentioned that you are feeling numbness over the tip of thumb. This numbness can be due to trauma to the nerve supplying the tip of thumb. In some instances the injury to the nerve is reversible and it heals spontaneously after couple of days. So wait for couple of days and observe if the numbness still persists. If it disappears it is fine. But if it does not, I suggest you to consult an orthopedician to assess the nerve function. In the mean while get sterile dressings on the wound on the thumb.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
