Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 19 year old son just came home from college and crashed. Guess his immune system was low. He has had a fever for last three days. 103 yesterday, when not on meds. 104 this morning. We were hoping this would break on its own but it didn't yet. Do you think I should get him checked out?
The symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to Viral fever.
Symptomatic management involves: 1. Analgesic anti-pyretic agents like Paracetamol. 2. Cold water sponging of the body to relieve the temperature. 3. Anti histamine preparations can also be used for symptomatic relief. 4. Maintain adequate hydration & proper nutrition.
If there is no relief even after 02 days, you need to get certain investigations like complete blood count, urine examination, peripheral smear for malaria, Dengue check, blood culture & X ray of chest. These investigations will be helpful in detecting the pathological cause & formulating further plan of management.
Wishing your son a good health. Take care.
