Hi,

Thanks for the query.

It seems that the pregnancy has not grown. We call it a missed abortion in medical terms. You should have been 8 weeks by now but the baby is only 4 weeks and there is still no evidence of the baby inside the pregnancy sac. So all the findings do suggest a missed abortion.

The only other possibility is a delayed conception that happens in women with irregular periods. Here the pregnancy occurs late as compared to the date of menstrual period as the ovulation is erratic. The best way to rule our this possibility is get a second ultrasound after 2 weeks to look for fetal growth. If the baby grows then it is a delayed conception, if there is no growth, it is definitely a missed abortion.

Sometimes while waiting for a second ultrasound, some women start to abort spontaneously and may need an emergency evacuation surgery. So this possibility must be kept in mind while deciding about the future course of treatment.

I have full sympathy with you and understand your concern. I hope this advice will help you in your decision making.

Thanks for using HCM.
