Should A Psychiatrist Be Consulted For Curing Adjustment Disorder?

Adjustment Disorder - I have been diagnosed with this by a social counselor. I am most troubled by scary thoughts such as punching my wife in the face--but no anger is there with it. It is not really specific to one person. Should I seek a psychiatric more qualified professional or is it normal to have this symptom with this disorder. It has been about 3 to 5 months seeing this counselor.
