Should Biopsy Be Done For Abnormal Growth In The Place Of Ovary?
I have just found out that I have a abnormal growth around were my ovary once was. I am being tested for cancer by blood work and my ultrasound shows I do have a growth that has increased in size . what is the next step. biopsy ? how is this procedure done ?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Yes, you are right. The growth what you are mentioning about needs to be assessed by means of biopsy. Biopsy is nothing but excising a small tissue material from the growth. The biopsy material would be subjected to histopathological examination. It helps to diagnose weather the growth is cancerous or noncancerous one. If it is cancerous, it would also tell about at what type it is and at what stage it is. This would help to plan the next course of treatment. Biopsy is generally done under short acting general anesthesia by means of ultrasound guided endoscopy.
