Should Dentist Be Consulted For Swelling Between Gums Causing Sharp Pain?

Hello Dr. Andrew, I was eating a chip and a piece of it cut right in between my gum and my teeth. it has been about 2 weeks and it is slightly swollen (comes and goes) and i just tried to floss and it give me a sharp pain and a lot of blood came out. I continued to brush my teeth and use listerine. My question is since it hurt so much to floss and it bled a lot, should I see a dentist or will it be fine?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

As it has been quite a while since the injury and it still seems fresh, it would be wise to visit a dentist and also initiate a course of antibiotics prescribed by your dentist.

Best wishes.
