Should Dried Blood Around Pierced Ear Be Removed?

My 11 yr old daughter s ears were pierced yesterday (with a needle in a piercing studio) and one was bleeding quite a lot. It has stopped but around and behind the earring is clogged with dried blood. Should we try to remove the clogged blood or is it OK to leave it like that?

Hi,

If the ear piercing is clogged with dried blood and as it has already bled profusely then it is better not to clean it at home.

You should consult an Emergency room or the piercing studio and get it cleaned with a sterile needle.

For now, you should do cool compresses over the piercing site. Clean it with antiseptic lotion.

In case if there is bleeding again it should be immediately checked.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
